IBMATA chairman calls for closer collaboration between border agencies at national and international level

IBMATA chairman Tony Smith has called for “greater collaboration” between border agencies both in the EU and beyond, in order to manage future growth in travel and transportation across international borders.

Smith – a former Director General of the UK Border Force and Director of Ports of Entry in both Canada and the UK – argues that new technology is bringing a “paradigm shift” to border controls in many parts of the world.

In his foreward to Government Europa Quarterly edition 27, Smith discusses current and future challenges facing border agencies worldwide; and addresses how these might be managed with greater collaboration across borders and with technology providers.
